Madeleine L’Engle legacy

Madeleine L’Engle was my favorite author as a child - I started with A Wrinkle in Time, went through the Murray/O’Keefe family, through the Austins and into her non-fiction. A Small Rain and A Severed Wasp were read to tatters.

While it’s been years since I read any of them, I was deeply saddenned to hear of her passing. Because my affections are well-known amongst my friends, they responded with the following:

Isotopeofme sent this, which I thought was great and forwarded to KT who wrote back:

I KNEW IT! Am bending myself now as per instructions. See you lat…..

and then the Native Hyepinay chimed in with:

Hey, Maya

Read this in a New Yorker profile and thought of you:

When I was in college, I remember a friend saying to me, “There are really two kinds of girls. Those who read Madeleine L’Engle when they were small, and those who didn’t.”

living thinking breathing

the beach is always a haven for me - it’ll be weird because water should always be west. I have an apartment now, am hopeful, but uncertain about J. Trying to enjoy the Indian summer and the unseasonable rain.

Bal-Loon

one more event down and this one had the added advantage of getting everyone outside for a lunch hour. Sort of cool to see something that’s been discussed for so long become a reality.

Limbo

the problem with my current situation is that everyone knows that I’m going, but until the background check clears, I can’t make any actual announcements (B, did we really bury ALL the bodies? Deep???)

This gives me time to think about how:

A. This is the most fantastic thing ever

B. This is a huge mistake

If I really like him, why am I leaving? If I stay, what would I do with myself?

As previously stated, everyone knows that I’m going, including me, and yet … my friends here are happy/sad and so unable to properly celebrate, my friends there are, well, there, and so unable to properly celebrate.

I hate waiting and rehashing once I’ve made a decision, but haven’t yet figured out how to turn my brain off.

If anyone has a handy how-to tip, please leave in the comments section; I will be grateful!
